Brightening The Black Friday Traditions

“Volunteering ” even if it’s just picking up litter or walking an elderly neighbor’s dog ” would take the ‘black’ out of Black Friday. You’ll not only be bypassing the madness of consumerism-on-steroids, but you’ll be brightening the world for those around you.”

Check out this little blog article about taking the “Black” stories of people being crazy on Black Friday and replacing it with doing good in the community. We think this writer has some great suggestions on how to make Black Friday a much lighter holiday tradition than the typical stories of people fighting over products.

What do you think? Think you’ll adapt any of these traditions into your annual celebration?

Kids In The Community:

Last week we met with the Keep Savannah Clean High School Leadership Council, featuring high school students from several schools in the area, each promoting anti-litter campaigns at their schools, to discuss the best ways in which they can team up with the city to help #KeepSavannahClean and inspire others to do the same. We are thrilled kids care about the environment because if we can inspire the younger generations today perhaps our future will be cleaner and brighter!

If you or your child would like to be a part of this #LitterCrew council please reach out to us and we’ll provide you with the proper information!

Biodegradable Plastics Are Not The Answer To Reducing Marine Litter, UN Says:

“Once in the ocean, plastic does not go away, but breaks down into microplastic particles. This report shows there are no quick fixes, and a more responsible approach to managing the lifecycle of plastics will be needed to reduce their impacts on our oceans and ecosystems.”

Check out this interesting article about the UN’s view on biodegradable plastics in the ocean and how they truly impact our world’s water supply.

“Widespread adoption of products labelled “biodegradable” will not significantly decrease the volume of plastic entering the ocean or the physical and chemical risks that plastics pose to marine environment, accord to a United Nations report released today.”

Perhaps this will make you think twice about dumping ‪#‎litter‬ in a body of water or perhaps encourage you to pick up any litter you see floating if you can?
